Leora is a recent olah chadasha (new Israeli immigrant) currently completing an immersive Hebrew language program at Ulpan Etzion in Jerusalem. Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa; Leora spent a great deal of time working within the broader Jewish community. She spent a gap year in Israel on Shnat Netzer and is an alumnus of HaMachon L’Madrechei Chutz La’Aretz (The Institute of Youth Leaders from Abroad). She went on to become Rosh Chinuch of Netzer South Africa and Chair of the Western Province (SA) Zionist Youth Council Chair. In 2013 she was elected chair of the South African Union of Jewish Students (SAUJS) in Cape Town.
Leora holds a B.Soc.Si degree in Politics, Philosophy and History and a post-graduate Honours degree in History from the University of Cape Town, (UCT). She has sat on the Mini Nahum Goldman Fellowship committee and has served in numerous roles on the Cape Town Limmud executive committee. In 2014 she spearheaded the creation of GenerationNext a division the Cape Jewish Board of Deputies with the mandate to provide the 18-35 year old demographic and served as it’s first coordinator. She was a founding resident of Moishe House Cape Town and served as the Jewish Student Life Coordinator at the Kaplan Centre for Jewish Studies.
Wendy Chernicki: Programming Co-Chair
Wendy made Aliyah from Argentina inspired by her great passion for Israel, Zionism and Judaism. She loves community building and her personal and professional goal is to make a positive impact in the Jewish world. Working as a program coordinator for Destination Israel – MASA, every year she helps hundreds of young Jews from over 20 different countries to have a meaningful long term experience in Israel.
Wendy is an active member of the international community in the White City, volunteering with Tel Aviv Internationals and JNFuture. Before moving to Israel, Wendy studied for a BA in Political Science and was highly involved in the Jewish community working for the World Zionist Organization. In Israel, she has worked coordinating English programming at Tel Aviv University Hillel during her MASA journey and taught Zionism in the Machon L’Madrichei Chutz La'Aretz (The Institute of Youth Leaders from Abroad) for the Jewish Agency.
